A greener Thaipusam celebration

A good step. Hope people will abide by it.

Ruling to stop use of polystyrene foam containers during Thaipusam

POLYSTYRENE cups and containers and other non-recyclable materials are prohibited in Batu Caves this coming Thaipusam festival.
The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has given a directive to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam, which manages the iconic tourist attraction, to go green this year as it wants to encourage devotees and visitors to be more environmentally conscious.
....Mohd Azizi said the council’s cleaning contractors had collected an average of 440 metric tonnes of rubbish a day during the week-long Thaipusam festival last year, which started on Jan 26.
He said it cost about RM158,000 to clear the rubbish last year......

Q Bistro - mamak uses boxes instead

Of all the mamak shops I've patronised, this one packs Nasi Kandar take-aways in specially designed cardboard boxes with sections instead of styrofoam boxes. It's quite strong & effective in containing the rice and gravy.

Let's have a closer look. Hope others will emulate :
But for today, i decided to pack the Tandoori chicken. Notice the segments

Although they still need to put it in the plastic bag, in case of spillage

Why cannot use styrofoam boxes?  Check out the Health & Environment issues.
